  • Start by consulting a lactation specialist or pediatrician to discuss your situation if you have questions about how to transition from breastfeeding to toddler formula.
  • General tips for introducing toddler formula to your breastfed child:
    • Always consult with your doctor before transitioning your child’s food.
    • If your baby is already used to feeding from a bottle, gradually transition to formula by following a schedule along these lines as recommended by your pediatrician:
      • Day 1-2: Feed your baby 25% formula and 75% breast milk
      • Day 3-4: Feed your baby 50% formula and 50% breast milk
      • Day 5-6: Feed your baby 75% formula and 25% breast milk
      • Day 7: Fully transition to formula
    • If your baby is not already accustomed to a bottle, it’s important to incorporate formula with breast milk throughout your transition schedule. Consider feeding your baby first with breast milk from a bottle until they are accustomed to it. After your toddler is comfortable bottle feeding, begin the formula transition schedule above.

  • How to support your toddler’s development of self-feeding practice:
    • Massive developmental leaps happen during your child’s first few years of life. Allowing them to safely explore food under careful supervision can help them not only develop a healthy relationship with nourishment, but can support the development of fine-motor skills and other critical life functions.
    • We recommend allowing your toddler to self-feed safe, pediatrician approved foods following the schedule created between your family and your physician.
    • In addition to the introduction of solid foods, we recommend allowing your child to consume Bêne Baby Toddler Formula in a bottle, sippy cup or child-sized cup to support drinking skill development. Use the utensils recommended by your pediatrician as is appropriate for your child’s developmental progress.
  • How to support your toddler’s sensory, intuition and hand-eye coordination:
    • Sensory building is imperative during a child’s first few years of life, as it helps drastically with brain development. We recommend a few of the activities below to aid your toddler’s growth:
      • Let your child use regular home items as sensory toys, such as spoons, spatulas, straws, etc.
      • Allow your child to play with play dough, as it’s a great way to increase their crafting skills.
      • Consider creating sensory bottles for your child to hold and play with. Always closely supervise children who are self-feeding.
    • Hand-eye coordination is important to develop while young. A few ideas for improving this are:
      • Placing objects of interest within close reach and allowing your toddler to access them on their own.
      • Shaking or rattling toys.
      • Play with toys that make noise.
      • Build towers for babies to knock down.

  • When it comes to baby formulas, there are some key items you want to keep an eye out for. Some include:
    • Easy-to-digest proteins – Goat milk proteins found in our formula are easy to digest because they produce softer curds in the stomach compared to cow milk.
      • The lower levels of alpha-S-1-casein protein in goat milk, compared with cow milk, provides hypoallergenic qualities. And, goat milk is high in the beneficial alpha-S-2-casein protein.
    • Natural sugars – Natural sugars promote weight management, unlike corn syrup and corn syrup solids which may lead to adverse long-term health outcomes when consumed regularly.
    • Fats – Goat milk contains smaller fat molecules than cow milk. The abundant medium chain triglycerides play an important role in development, absorption and digestion.
    • DHA and ARA – Naturally occurring in breast milk, these mimicked fatty acids promote brain and eye development in babies.

Vitamins and supplements – Vitamins and supplements such as vitamin K (important for our circulatory system), vitamin D (important for bone growth), vitamin B12 (supports neurological functions) and iron (important for oxygen flow throughout the body) are important elements that should be included in formulas.
